•• Sparrow •• Autumn. That time of year where the pattering of leaves trickling from their branches to settle upon earthen floor accented the atmosphere and cool crisp air lingered and licked upon ones heels. Oh, the glory of it all as once thriving life slowly began to shutter to a pause in bright fiery colors only to have winter cancel it out in a pristine white gauze of snow. Sparrow was in her glory in such conditions. She frolicked upon lands exploring hidden spaces and finding new little nooks and crannies to camp out in over night before she began a whole new trek the next day full of her very own adventures. Simple amusements never passed her by nor did those earthly attractions that pulled at ones mind and thoughts.
Small body rocketed through leaves like a bat out of hell, her multi-hued pelt glinting within creeping sunlight as dawn came upon the world, her heart shaped mitts kicking up the very dew that had laid to rest upon the ground. Auditories balanced neatly upon cranium at high alert as the sounds of morning assaulted eardrums along with her very own padding of footsteps, birds cascaded their triumphant symphonies while critters chattered away in trees above. Bodice weaved neatly among trees until she broke into area canvased with mottled grey tones of concrete and contrasting green of foliage and moss sending her exhilarating run to a nearly accidental halt. All four mitts locked up in unison as taloned claws ripped into earth, though petite her momentum had gotten the best of her as she gouged at dirt and carbon exhaled from dual toned nostrils in slight panic. A concrete wall was erupting within her bright optics and she wasn't stopping as fast as she would have liked so with adrenaline coursing her veins and muscles twitching with exertion she rolled whole frame to the side as a dog would expecting a treat in a sort of show.
"Bloody hell..."
Words blossomed from vocal chords in a whoosh like fashion as she tumbled over a few more times and finally got her footing and set herself upright, her whole image a strewn mess as dirt and leaves clung to her now forming shaggy winter coat. Rump hit the ground quickly as she tried to regain her composure and to give her a minute to glower at that damned wall that had sprung out at her out of no where. Every ounce of anger, upset and frustration shout out of her eyes at the wall hoping it would melt or something. Though nothing did happen which dampened mood that much more.
Vision sprang around backdropped area taking in its haunting glory as buildings fallen to nothing loomed before her, more like carcasses of the glory they had once been as mother nature took them over in her own elegant way. Toes sprang back to life pushing her forth in a curious trot, muzzle snapping delightfully at leaves as they floated past her. She forged her own path as she hurtled small mass through winder and crept through doorways exploring the sheer other worldliness of area unknown to herself. Seemingly right in the middle of its midst she found crumbling wall that she was able to jump upon and tread carefully upon the incline until she sat herself upon the top giving her leverage and height to gaze outward and to drink it all in. Oh she could linger here for days.

The Autumn months were the favourite season of a certain German Shepherd. The cool breeze combined with the warm sun, the beautiful crunchy leaves littered across the ground, the autumn sky... Chief loved how wonderful the weather was; not quite too hot, not quite too cold, and not nearly as rainy as the other seasons of the year. Yes, this was certainly one of those seasons in which the stray appreciated being a wandered. He was able to roam around and bear witness to the beauty of the changing season, all the colours changing to beautiful hues of red and orange, and the crispness in both the air and the crunch of the leaves under his paws as he walked.
Out of all the places he had been, the Bones was one of his favourites. The concrete walls could absorb heat from the sun during the winter, and provided shelter from the strong winds. The vegetation, however, provided plenty of homeyness, giving it a more natural feel. Some saw the place as an abomination, an ugly mass of concrete and overgrowth that stood out like a sore thumb; but not the quiet German Shepherd. It reminded him of the police office he used to work in, with the massive stone walls and grey colours.
Chief often wandered there when he felt homesick, missing the concrete walls of his human's homes, and the man-made look of his surroundings. He missed his humans. He longed for them to return, but there wasn't really much he could so about it other than hope. So, he trotted up to the old abandoned site, hoping as much as his heart could and wishing away the feeling of loneliness. He really needed to find some conversation, something that could take his mind off what he lacked and put it back on what he should appreciate.
The former police dog knew his way around fairly well, and had enough knowledge of the area to find a way inside. He spotted one of the old windows, where the glass had fallen out long ago and lay in shards below on the other end. He crouched, wiggled his rump as he got ready to spring up, and pushed himself up with powerful rear legs. The large German Shepherd had plenty of muscle on him, and was able to leap great distances on his breed description alone. He had been trained to jump far greater heights, and easily made his way through the old window, carefully hopping back down far enough from the entrance point to avoid any old glass shards that might have been left behind.
He did not know that he was not alone until he heard someone else tumbling outside. The large canine was not usually intimidated by strangers, mostly due to his size and general trust of others, but he was not stupid, either... He made sure to put a good distance between himself and the sounds, padding off quickly and quietly to hide behind one of the cement chunks that used to be wall. He watched as a younger Australian Shepherd hopped in to view, gaining great leverage and a wonderful view from her vantage point.
She didn't look malicious or spiteful at first glance...
The older dog decided to take a chance at meeting another dog; after all, he hadn't held a decent conversation in far too long. Perhaps this was a sign, a chance for him to finally collect his thoughts and take his mind off memories that were ended long ago. It was only a year, but sometimes he felt as though he had been left alone for decades. Quietly, curiously, he stepped out from his hiding place and peered up at the new dog, offering a plain expression and innocent look in his gold-brown eyes. He didn't mean any harm, and he tried to make that known in the way that he held his head and the way that his ears were pulled back.
"...Hey," he called up, cocking his head to the side slightly, "I've nev'r seen you b'fore... Are you new h're...??"
